We would like to flag a high-priority item based on some investigation we have conducted on our end over the past weeks. It specifically relates to Search Engine Optimization efforts on Fundraising events and campaigns that reside in Luminate Online. We recently performed some site crawls using 3rd-party tools, which revealed a poorer than expected SEO score, and the need to perform some optimization with respect to text compression (GZIP).
You can refer to the note below: GZIP compression is enabled differently depending on which type of server you're using. One of the most common solutions is to add some code to the .htaccess file on your server, which you can access from the file manager. You can find boilerplate GZIP configurations for popular servers here. (Once enabled, GZIP compression will be detected in the next crawl and you’ll see your SEO score go up accordingly).
Additionally, as we dove deeper into this, recently, we’ve noticed that our URL previews aren’t working correctly. The language that’s being displayed in the preview is inconsistent with the locale settings). This is because Facebook is ignoring the meta tags we include and is instead scraping the information itself because it requires that sites have both gzip AND deflate encoding to process the tags we’re giving it. https://developers.facebook.com/docs/sharing/webmasters#markup Given that compression is a server-side process and that we do not have access to the back-end code, we are not able to implement any sort of compression ourselves. Furthermore, this poses a significant accessibility/language problem that would need resolution on sooner rather than later.
We are hoping that a resolution to this issue will result in higher amounts of organic traffic to the sites, and therefore an increased conversion rate on donations/sign-ups for our signature events in the future.
