Organization Donations tied to TeamRaiser participants

Our TeamRaiser fundraisers sign up for and individually raise funds for TeamRaiser events. Then, as checks/donations arrive, we assign them to the individual participants' accounts (NOT to the main TeamRaiser events they are participating on). The "Offline Gift" works fine for individual gifts, but when Organziations, Companies, Matching Gift Foundations make gifts, we are unable to create Corporate/Organization constituents. All must be entered as Indivduals. This is very confusing. We have to enter the Org name into the First and Last name fields... makes no sense. I spoke with a Convio representative today and she said there is no way within the "Local Companies" tab to tie Company Sponsor gifts to individual participants. Instead, all their gifts go straight to the event, not tied to a participant directly. Our suggestion is that there is the option to enter Company/Organization/Foundation gifts as tied to participants.

Hi Ken!  That makes sense!  After looking through some of the FAQs about your new Org feature, I hesitate to have it activated for us.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like it would be a ton of work to set it up.  Would we have to manually add each of our current/past companies/orgs that are now in Constituents initially before we are able to search for one?  Would there be a way to transfer or merge transaction histories?  We have many years of data for some of our org donors.  I feel like it would be much easier for us if we were just able to move forward with an additional field for "org/company name" when we create a new donor in Constituents (and that same field for searching).  I imagine you didn't do that for a reason and I'm sure it must be a lot of work or would effect other features.  But if I were to "dream big", that's more what we're dreaming I think :)  Thank you for all your helpful information!

Hi Stephanie, I don't think you are seeing all the options because Org gifts aren't enabled on your site. In addition to Existing Donor and Create New Donor there should be an option to Search for Existing Organization (see screenshot attached). This will allow you to make a gift to a participant on behalf of an organization that was already created in your system under Constituent 360 > Organizations. We shipped this particular feature off by default because many orgs have implemented work-arounds like you mentioned above (putting org info into first and last name fields) and would need time to incorporate the new feature on their own schedule. You can contact Support to have this feature enabled however I would recommend you review the help documentation on this feature first and talk with Support about the impact of turning this on because it is a one-way feature toggle. Once you turn it on you can't turn it back. That being said there are many great things to take advantage of so this is just a precaution so you know how processes might function going forward.

Let me know if this could to be the answer to your issue,

    Ken

Hey Stephanie, I'm talking internally with some teams and will get back to you with more specifics. Thanks for the additional detail on the process you follow.

Hi Ken, thanks for the link to the video.  I watched it, but it was still unclear to me how it would be used in my situation (and it sounds like Bryan's above as well?). When I enter an offline gift from a company, it will go toward the fundraising of a particular participant (or team) within our TeamRaiser. So I find the participant, go to "Enter Offline Gift", then the options are Search for Existing Donor or Create New Donor.  Neither of these two options shows information about companies/orgs.  When you Search for Existing, it pulls a search of Constituents (first/last name of individuals, no company name search) and when you Create a New Donor, there's no option for Company Name.  How do you suggest entering gifts for individual participants made by companies/orgs (including matching gifts)?

Hi Stephanie, Organizations was added to Luminate starting last year and going into 16.1 release this year. You can view a video of this feature here https://www.blackbaud.com/howto/luminate-newfeatures.aspx under 16.1 Features > Organizations.

This should be a better solution than the work-around we've done in the past (which you were suggesting).

    Thanks!

Could be as simple as just adding an additional field to the donor's information for "Company Name" and have it be one field.  It always feels silly when you have to decide what part of the Company name is going to be the "First Name" and what part to make the "Last Name".  It then makes it difficult to find again in Constituents.

This is functionality we are currently working on and is planned for release in the second half of 2015 or very early 2016
