Some Canadian charities have USA affiliates that allow USA-based donors to donate to the US partner/branch and receive a tax deduction. They would like to be able to accept donations in both CDN dollars and USD, but within the same instance of LO, and have the TeamRaiser page (or Donation progress meter) update instantly.
Two competitors that are based in Canada, Artez and Raisin, offer this ability.
Background - for Canadian nonprofits that have US-based 501c3s, this helps them extend their donor reach into the USA and motivates people to give since US citizens can also receive tax deductions. The goal is to make it appear seamless to the donor aside from needing to select which country they reside in/which currency they will donate in. This helps increase overall fundraising.
Similarly, for organizations that have international focus, such as disaster relief organizations, they have donors from all over the world. International donors can make donations in US currency, but the same concept applies - allowing a donor to make a donation in his or her home country's currency can increase propensity to give.

We have events around the world, ticket prices are almost always in the local currency. (i.e. Our Milan, Italy event ticket prices are in Euros). People from Europe and the US purchase tickets to these events. This is a limiting factor in our use of LO. The comment below says that it is being built into Next Gen LO - but that was almost 4 years ago. What's the roadmap look like today?
We are planning to build in internationalization out of the box in Luminate Next Generation.
