Personalization fields, such as first name, display the information of the user sending the test message, rather than that of the recipient as they would in a live send. This prevents users from testing this capability in messages before approving them, and adds many more steps in order to test a fairly basic functionality of emails. Personalization fields should work in test messages just as they do in live emails.
